Shelter has the distinction of being awarded the following sculpture prizes: First Prize, The Confluence Show 1991: New Art of Pennsylvania, juror by Ivan Karp, Owner and Director, O.K. Harris; in 1995, Second Prize NATIONAL, Pindar Gallery New York, NY, juror Charlotta Kotik, the John and Barbara Vogelstein Curator of Contemporary Art, the Brooklyn Museum; and, in 1995 the Harry S. F. Cooper Prize for Sculpture, Cooperstown Art Association’s NATIONAL, juror: Holland Cotter, critic, The New York Times.
In addition, Shelter has been exhibited at The Gallery of The State Theatre, Easton, PA; in the exhibit Domestic Spaces, juror Charlotta Kotik, at the Art Alliance, Philadelphia, PA; and, in the exhibit Line of Inquiry, curator Tricia Fagan, The Gallery, Mercer County Community College, Trenton, NJ. In 1995 in 18th Annual Bucks County Sculpture Show Shelter was the first recipient of the First Prize Dr. Selma Burke Sculpture Award, selected by Dr. Selma Burke, Lisa Tremper Barnes and Zoltan Buki. Dr. Selma Burke was the legendary portrait sculptor of the likeness of Franklin Delano Roosevelt for the dime.
